Today marks a very special day for many youths in our village – Manjiri. December 20th we did a cleanup that started of a revolution in taking care of our environment, garbage collection and creating job opportunities for the youths.
Yesterday the work we started was put to test when the MCA stopped all collections being done by the youths. After the meeting the youths were given the go ahead by the county government of Kiambu County Government-Kenya to proceed with the noble work they started.
I would like to say thank you to the County Government for playing a bigger role of really seeing the bigger picture for the youth in the following ways:
– Solving unemployment by allowing the youths to create their own jobs in waste collection
– Improving the state of the community by ensuring through their work there is a clean environment to live in for the everyone
– Improving Security through empowering youths to have a means to earn their own living, who may if not assisted in this way result to drug abuse.
Moving forward we know there are great challenges in sustaining this but those are challenges we should be ready to face to make the difference where we live. We all owe a duty of care to our country if we are to change it for the better. The government can no longer be relied upon to provide al the jobs that we need – We must create them ourselves.
